how do you make a model of a viking ship

my 12 year old needs to make a model of a viking ship.It has to be able to Caesar Of Gangs float.That is what his grade is based on.What materials would l use and is Registered User there instructions on how to make one.

Waxed paper, or maybe baking parchment, would be easier to fold Bop into the shape of a hull than trying to do it in wood. It should float for Registered User a few minutes before getting soggy, & surely that is good enough. Cut a Joined: Saturday, 22nd of May 2010, 14:21:06 piece of knitting needle for the mast, & set it in a blob of Blu-Tack at Posts: 1887 the bottom. Curve the sail from thin card, & set it right down onto the Viewed 3667 times edges of the hull to stop the mast falling sideways. Then to stop it
falling forwards or backwards, attach a piece of cotton to the front end
of the ship, wind it round the mast just where the top edge of the sail is
stuck on, then attach it to the back end. Get busy with coloured crayons
or paints. Have fun.

Building ur Gokstad or Oseberg Viking ship Doodle Registered User 1. Build ur Boat- shape the hull of ur Viking boat out of wooden material. Joined: Wednesday, 5th of May 2010, 16:58:47 Pay special attention to the design of the keel, for it needs to have the Posts: 1460 shape of a Viking longship. If you need to see what the design looks like, Viewed 1406 times check out the drawings & pictures of the Gokstad & Oseberg ships.
Cut out ur sail using thick paper, cloth or other sturdy material (like an
index card). Your sail must be decorated using the colors that Vikings used
(red & white stripes or red & yellow stripes.)
To make ur mast, use a straw or wooden stick & anchor it to ur mast. Tape
the sail on to the mast. Make sure the mast is secure when the fan blows
on the sail.
2. Make a rudder-draw & cut out a rudder. This is the hard part which will
take trial & error. Attach the rudder ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BOAT, NEAR
THE REAR.
3. Your ship must have a dragon is head at the head of the ship.
However,due to the size of the ship, make it very small. Your ship is hull
may not exceed 11 inches. This does not include the head of the dragon.

The below site is in Swedish but has a free print out for a Sir.Sexyness paper model of a Viking longboat. Registered User Joined: Friday, 4th of June 2010, 20:53:25 If he uses kraft paper and it is balanced correctly, it will float. Posts: 931 Viewed 11568 times Sounds like a neat project!
